  3. INSTRUCTIONS

  5. WINDOWS 98/2000/XP & later
  6.  
  7. To view this program contents simply:
  8.  
  9. * Insert CD in Drive.
  10.  
  11. * The program automatically starts.
  12.  
  13. If you have "Autorun" disabled or wish to start the program 
  14. manually:
  15.  
  16. * Insert CD in drive.
  17.  
  18. * Select "Run" from the "Start" menu. Type in "D:BEGIN.EXE".
  19. Omit quotes and replace the letter "D" with the appropriate
  20. letter for your CD drive (D is the most common).  Click "OK".
  21.  
  22. All software installation and launching is done through this
  23. "BEGIN" menu. Follow the on-screen directions.

  25. IMAGE BROWSER USE
  26.  
  27. The browser (Extensis Portfolio) is a program that allows you 
  28. to browse the catalog of images at your own pace, view them 
  29. full screen, and search image captions. This software does 
  30. not need to be installed onto your computer. The Image
  31. Browser contains other features which you may discover on 
  32. your own or by clicking on the "Help" menu in the program.

  34. * From the Main Menu, click on the "Image Browser" button to
  35. launch the browser.

  37. View Images Full Screen
  38.  
  39. * Left double-click on any thumbnail to view image full screen.
  40.  
  41. Play QuickTime Movies
  42.  
  43. This CD contains QuickTime video clips.  The thumbnails for the
  44. video clips are located at the end of the Image Browser catalog
  45. and have the word VIDEO in large letters.
  46.  
  47. * Left double-click on any video thumbnail to play the video clip.
  48.  
  49. Find/Search Captions in the Catalog
  50.  
  51. * Captions for each image are stored in the "description" field.
  52.  
  53. * To search captions, click on the "Magnifying Glass" button in 
  54. the tool bar. In the "Find" dialog box, type a word or words in 
  55. the search field (e.g. "railroad", or "mountain") and 
  56. click on the "Find" button. To search for more than one word,
  57. choose "More Choices" to add a second "Find" field.  Change
  58. the fields to read for a search in "Descriptions" with things
  59. that "Contains" the second word.

  61. *To find all the images again, click on the "Magnifying Glass"
  62. button in tool bar, then click on "Find All" in the "Find"
  63. dialog box.

  65. Slide Show
  66.  
  67. The Image Browser allows you to view an on-screen slide show.
  68.  
  69. * Click on "View" from the menu and choose "Slideshow" to 
  70. begin the slide show.
  71. * The screen contains controls for the slide show.
  72. Hitting "ESC" or the "square" stop button will exit 
  73. the slide show.

  75. Catalog Views

  77. There are 3 different views in the image catalog.  The view that
  78. first appears when you open the catalog is called the "Item"
  79. view.  You may switch to the "Thumbnail" view or the "List" view
  80. by clicking on one of the three view buttons on the tool bar.

  82. PERFORMANCE TIPS

  84. Help
  85. The Image Browser's "Help" feature is optimized to use 
  86. Microsoft Explorer.  It also works with Netscape Communicator, 
  87. but runs slower.

  89. Monitor Settings
  90. The image catalog is best viewed with a monitor resolution 
  91. setting of 800 x 600 or higher.

  93. TO INSTALL SCREEN SAVER

  95. * From the Main Menu click on the "Screen Saver"
  96. button.

  98. TO INSTALL QUICKTIME
  99.  
  100. Apple's QuickTime software is required for playback of narrated
  101. video clips in the browser.
  102.  
  103. * If you do not already have QuickTime installed, explore the
  104. disc and locate the QuickTimeInstaller folder. Open the folder,
  105. double click the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

  107. INTERNET RESOURCES
  108.  
  109. * On the Main Menu, click on the "Internet Resources" button to
  110. connect to additional information that compliments the CD.
  111.  
  112. * The "Extensis" website (www.extensis.com) may be reached by
  113. clicking on the internet address in the "Internet Resources"
  114. menu. It is full of great user tips, free upgrades and
  115. trouble-shooting tips for the browser (Extensis Portfolio
  116. Browser).

  118. IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

  120. * Images are in JPG format for your convenience.  They may be
  121. used in any image or publishing program that can recognize JPG 
  122. images.

  124. * Images are located in the "Images" folder.
